Whitley Southerland 1991-2015
Miss Whitley Brook Southerland, 23, of Martin passed away 3:15 a.m. Sunday, March 15, 2015, as the result of injuries received in a automobile accident on Parham Road near her home. She was a former resident of Union City.
Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at
First Baptist Church
in Martin. Dr. Mike Sams, Dr. Melvin Poe and Bro. Roy Southerland will officiate. Burial will follow in Mt. Moriah Cemetery near Obion.
Edmaiston Mosley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Visitation will be held at
First Baptist Church
in Martin from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Tuesday and from 9:00 a.m. until the hour of services Wednesday.
Pallbearers will be Weldon Doughten, Bobby Doughten, Colton Crutchfield, Jordan Clouse, Casey Covington, Matt Moore, Will Burruss and Trevor Torre.
Honorary pallbearers will be Katelyn Williams, Hillary Jones, Katherine Parker, Jessica Hart, Kristi Edwards, Erica Dunning, Madison Wilson and Amy Gurley.
Memorial contributions may take the form of donations to Greg and Patricia Southland at any First State Bank location in memory of Whitley.
Whitley was born July 12, 1991, in Paducah, Kentucky, daughter of Greg and Patricia (Doughten) Southerland of Martin. She was a 2009 graduate of Obion County Central High School where she was a cheerleader and was in the top twenty percent of her class. Whitley graduated magna cum laude from The University of Tennessee at Martin in December 2014 with a degree in child and family studies with a focus on social work. While enrolled at UTM she had been named to the Dean's List and was a Alpha Tau Omega Little Sister. Whitley enjoyed singing and playing the piano. She would sing every year at Santa's Village in Martin and in various talent shows. She attended First Baptist Church in Martin with her family and had served on mission teams with Calvary Baptist Church in Union City. Whitley was employed as the admissions coordinator and social worker at Van Ayer Nursing Home and Rehab Center in Martin.
She is also survived by her brother, Isaiah Southerland of Martin; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Charlie and Estelle Southerland, Emma Marguerite Brewer and Malcolm Doughten.
