Virginia M. Smithson, 93, of Union City went home to be with the Lord 9:12 a.m. Saturday, November 18, 2023, at AHC Union City.

Funeral services will be conducted 1:00 p.m. Tuesday in the chapel of Edmaiston Mosley Funeral Home. Pastor Justin Hiens will officiate. Burial will follow in Obion County Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers will be Bobby Wiley, Roger Harris, B.J. Phillips, Randy Roberson, Terry Roberson and Allen Edmaiston.

Visitation will be held at Edmaiston Mosley Funeral Home from 11:00 a.m. until the hour of services Tuesday.

Virginia was born July 3, 1930, in Redford, Michigan, daughter of the late Clifton and Verdie (Timma) Osterhout. She married Hubert Smithson July 1, 1948. He preceded her in death March 2, 2009. Virginia retired as a sales clerk from J.L. Hudson's Department Store in Westland, Michigan after 22 years of service. She was a member of Second Baptist Church, The Daughters of The King Sunday School Class, was a volunteer with the nursing home ministry and the home bound ministry at church. Virginia was a part of the bag ladies ministry at Second Baptist that makes sleeping mats for the homeless and the Obion County Senior Citizens Center. Virginia enjoyed traveling, reading and bible studies.

She is survived by two daughters, Cheryl Green and husband Greg of Chelsea, Michigan and Linda Kelly and husband Joe of Union City; her daughter-in-law, Mary Smithson of Grand Blanc, Michigan; five grandchildren; six great grandchildren; and two great great grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by her son, Larry Smithson; and two brothers, Clifton Osterhout and Virgil Osterhout.
