Obituary

Virginia C. Ryder, 73, of Union City passed away 12:52 a.m. Saturday, April 1, 2017, at Jackson Madison County General Hospital. She had moved here one year ago to be near her son and daughter-in-law, William Jay and Donna Ryder of Union City.

Per her request she will be cremated. A private family memorial service will be conducted at a later date in Montauk, New York. There will be no local services.

Edmaiston Mosley Funeral Home is in charge of cremation arrangements.

The family requests memorials be made to the American Heart Association or the charity of the donor's choice.

Virginia was born January 1, 1944, in Flushing, New York, daughter of the late John A. and Stella (Purdoski) Van Allen. She was a graduate of Hicksville High School in Hicksville, New York. Virginia was a retired medical transcriptionist. She had served as a Girl Scout leader and PTO president while living in Germany. Virginia was of the Catholic faith. A native of New York she had most recently lived in Coconut Creek, Florida and Hermitage after settling in Clarksville as a military spouse.

She is also survived by two daughters, Rebecca and David Clemens, Jr. of Hermitage and Elizabeth and Ernest Sykes, Jr. of Nolensville; one sister, Cindy Van Allen-Adamy of Doylestown, Pennsylvania; and five grandchildren, Jonathan Ryder and Matthew Ryder, both of Union City, Lauren Sykes of Nolensville and Ana Claire Clemens and David Clemens, III, both of Hermitage; and her beloved pet, Brindle.
