Dorothy Vernelle (Wade) Tucker Douglas, 87, a resident of Troy for the past 11 years and prior to that Camden, Tennessee, passed into the arms of our Lord on July 1, 2012, at the Union City Manor Rehab and Nursing Center in Union City after numerours health issues.

Vernelle, Mama Nelle and Aunt Nelle as she was affectionately known was born October 8, 1924, to Vera Vester and Ernest Lilburn Wade and was raised in Big Sandy, Tennessee. She, along with her family, suffered through the depression and worked hard for a living. Born in the middle of five children, she picked cotton, chopped wood, hauled drinking water and cleared fields as the one and only brother was born last in the family. She was a strong willed determined individual who sacrificed for her children and family.

As a young adult during the 1950s, Vernelle worked for Brown Shoe Company in Union City and later in the 1960s at H.I.S. in Bruceton, Tennessee, and other garment factories in Camden, Tennessee. She was a virtuous woman. It was her desire for her children to go to college in they desired to do so and make a life better for themselves.

She was married to James Anderson Tucker in Corinth, Mississippi. He is now deceased.

Vernelle married Nubern Douglas of Camden, Tennessee in the 1960s. He is now deceased.

Vernelle is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Sherry Tucker Drozd and Ted Drozd of Foley, Alabama, Wanda Tucker Forrester and Robert W. Forrester of Troy, Tennessee, and Judy Tucker Steward and her fiancee Bob Keast of Camden, Tennessee; two step-sons, William Larry Douglas and Sammy Wade Douglas both of Camden, Tennessee; three darling grandsons, Brian William Jordan and wife Sheidi Jordan, of Concord, North Carolina, Nathan Daniel Forrester and wife, Casey Barnes Forrester, of Troy, Tennessee and Justin Wade Forrester and wife, Harley Mathis Forrester, of Union City, Tennessee. She bragged on and adored her greay-grandchildren, Matthew and Erica Lynn Jordan, Riley Beth Forrester and Gabbi Claire Forrester; her sister, Mary Lavelle (Wade) Mobbs Brandon and brother-in-law, M.L. "Red" Brandon, of Union City; her brother Ernest Lynn Wade, and sister-in-law, Lou Wade of Waverly, Tennessee; and many loving nieces and nephews.

Along with her parents and husbands, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Irene (Wade) Berry and Rozene (Wade) Hime.

Vernelle loved three very special things in life. She loved to dance. When she lived in Camden, she two-stepped with her beloved friends, Viola, Peggy, Vera and James and Kay Floyd and the Higdon family, her cousins. Today she dances with the angels. She also loved birds. She was an avid bird watcher. She had many collectible bird pictures and beautiful bird art pieces. Her tired and weary body in given new life to fly with the birds. And she loved church.

Visitation will be at Edmaiston-Mosley Funeral Home from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Monday.

The funeral will be held in the chapel of Edmaiston-Mosley Funeral Home at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, with Rev. Judd Mowery and Dr. Vann Kissell officiating.

Graveside services will be 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at Mt. Carmel Cemetery in Big Sandy.

Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Brian Jordan, Nathan Forrester, Justin Forrester and friends, Tony Lofton, Tommy Mathis and Jacob Morris.

Vernelle leaves a legacy of love. She truly is dancing with the angels! And now she flys.
