Thomas Anthony "Big A" Darnell, 54, of Union City passed away Saturday morning, September 12, 2020, at St. Francis Hospital in Memphis.
Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Tuesday in the chapel of Edmaiston Mosley Funeral Home. Brother Robert Johnson and Brother Tom Fortner will officiate. Burial will follow in Obion County Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Mike Huffstutter, Zach Huffstutter, Mason Huffstutter, Jimmy Ring, Steve Sedberry, Matt Chappell, Blake Cheatham, Jason Riley and Tyler Barker.
Honorary pallbearers will be Thomas Key, Johnny Key, Bryan Key, Perry Douglas, Jon Brayden Powers, Charlie Scott, employees of Alexander Auto Detail and employees of Buddy's Wrecker Service.
Visitation will be held at Edmaiston Mosley Funeral Home from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Monday.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made to the Thomas Darnell Scholarship Fund that is being established at First Citizens National Bank for the benefit of an Obion County Central High School student who plans on attending college to pursue a degree in agriculture.
Big A was born October 19, 1965, in Union City, son of the late Virgil and Dorothy (Fortner) Darnell of Hickman, Kentucky who were the long time owners and operators of the Ridge Store in the bottoms of Hickman. He married Cathy (Napier) Darnell March 1, 1986. She survives. Big A was a retired farmer, an avid hunter and grill master. He was a long time member of Midway Missionary Baptist Church near Hickman. Big A enjoyed spending time at Buddy's Wrecker Service, Alexander Auto Detail and spending time with local farmers. He chose to help others even after his death as he was a tissue donor.
He is also survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Chelsie Hope Darnell-Crumpton and her husband Brandon of Union City; and his beloved dog, Luke.
He was also preceded in death by one sister, Sandra Darnell; and three brothers, Joey Darnell, Ronnie Darnell and Rickie Darnell.
