Spurgeon Boyce "Spud" Massey, 80, of Union City passed away 2:31 p.m. Saturday, November 20, 2021, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Union City.
Graveside services will be conducted 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 24, 2021, at Salem Cemetery near Union City. Brother Chip Davis will officiate.
Family members will serve as pallbearers.
There will be no visitation and friends are asked to meet at the cemetery for the service.
Edmaiston Mosley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Spurgeon was born September 7, 1941, in Marion County, Florida, son of the late A.E. and Inez Wanda Mae (Hogue) Massey. He was the widower of Carol (Bradley) Massey who preceded him in death October 28, 2008. Spurgeon was a retired truck driver who enjoyed fishing. Prior to moving to Union City he was a longtime resident of Lawtey, Florida where he served on the city council and was the fire chief of the Lawtey Volunteer Fire Department for many years.
He is survived by one daughter, Susan Massey Groves of Starke, Florida; two sons, Victor Massey (Jo Ann) of Union City and Kenny Boyce Massey (Samira) of Centerville, Alabama; thirteen grandchildren; twenty three great grandchildren; and one brother, Wayne Spurgeon (Abbie) of Lawtey, Florida.
He was also preceded in death by one daughter, Jeannie Wilson; and two brothers, Daniel Massey and Edward Lee Massey.
