Mrs. Sandy L. Carty, 69, of Obion died 2:35 a.m. Monday, March 11, 2013, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Union City surrounded by her family.
Funeral services will be conducted 1:00 p.m. Wednesday in the chapel of Edmaiston-Mosley Funeral Home. Dr. Melvin Poe will officiate. Burial will follow in Minnick Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at Edmaiston-Mosley Funeral Home from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Tuesday. Pallbearers will be her grandchildren, Jason Sloan, Joseph Sloan, Jacob Sloan, Jon Calvert, Andrea Calvert, Dillon Fisher, Ginny Calvert, Agustin Guerrero, Madison Sloan, Quenten Sloan, Taylor Kitchen, Brian Kitchen, Benjamin Carty, Sofia Carty and Megan Fisher.
Memorial contributions may take the form of donations to Susan G. Komen for The Cure, 9288 Dielman Industrial Drive, St. Louis, Missouri 63132.
Mrs. Carty was born June 20, 1943, in Homer, Michigan, daughter of the late Harold and Annette (Covey) Van Meter. She married Melvin Carty January 12, 1962. He survives. Mrs. Carty was a homemaker, loving wife, mother and grandmother.
She is also survived by four daughters and sons-in-law, Lori and Jason Sloan of Columbia, Christine and Howard Streb of Union City, Kelly and Dan Fisher of Obion and Shelby and Mark Kitchen of Topeka, Kansas; her son and daughter-in-law, Jimmy and Mariana Carty of Mt. Pleasant; her sister, Pat Cole of Toekonsha, Michigan; two brothers Donald Van Meter of Martin and Duane Van Meter of Homer, Michigan; sixteen grandchildren; and six great grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by her sister, Katherine Ball; and her brother, John Van Meter.
