Obituary

Dr. Rufus H. Moore,73, a resident of Trenton, Tn. and formerly of Lake County, died at 6:48 a.m. Sunday, December 25, 2011, at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital.

Funeral services for Dr. Moore will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Cayce (Ky.) United Methodist Church . Rev. William T. Jowers will officiate. Entombment will follow at Obion County Memorial Gardens with full military honors.

The family will receive friends at Edmaiston-Mosley Funeral Home from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Tuesday and from 8:00 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Pallbearers will be Clint Hickerson, Jonathan Dodd, Jay Jewell, Randy Martin, Greg Curlin and Glenn Howell.

Honorary pallbearers will be Dennis Jones, Jerry Graham, Alford Barker, Robert Thompson, Robert Bagwell, Bobby Ray, Don Robertson and Harry Ferguson.

Dr. Moore was born May 29, 1938, in Tiptonville, son of the late Benjamin and Susie (McCrady) Moore. He married the former Sarah Castleman on December 21, 1960.She survives. They just celebrated fifty one years of marriage Wednesday. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Union University in Jackson, a Masters in English from the former Memphis State University, a Masters in Education from the University of Tennessee at Martin and a Doctorate in Theology from Southern Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky. He was a retired educator who had taught three years at Fulton County High School in Hickman, Kentucky and Trenton Peabody High School in Trenton, Tennessee. Dr. Moore had taugt classes at Dyersburg State Community College and the University of Tennessee at Martin. He was a retired Methodist minister with his last pastorate being at the Cayce United Methodist Church. During his ministry he served churches in Western Kentucky and West Tennessee. Dr. Moore was a member of the Memphis Methodist Council. He retired with the rank of Colonel with the Tennessee National Guard after twenty two years of service.

In addition to his wife he is also survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Michelle and Mike Scott of Medina; his son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Julie Moore of Bogota; two granddaughters, Chloe Cates of Medina and Kady Moore of Bogota; and two sisters, Mary Kate Bell of Linden and Becky Moore of Lobelville.

He was preceded in death by three sisters, Sue Ray, Nellie Steed and Ruby Kemp.
