Obituary

Mr. Rudy Skoda, 80, of Union City died 12:12 a.m. Thursday, April 1, 2010, at Jackson Madison County General Hospital.

Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Saturday at Faith Lutheran Church in Union City. Tom McWilliams will officiate. Burial will follow in East View Cemetery.

Mr. Skoda was born June 14, 1929, in Rice Lake, Wisconsin, son of the late Ralph and Julia (Holiday) Skoda. He married the former Lila Thalman on June 11, 1952. She survives. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War testing atomic bombs in Nevada and was a football player for the semi pro football league in Seattle, Washington in 1948. Mr. Skoda was a charter member of Faith Lutheran Church in Union City where he had served on the building committee for the church and parsonage. He retired in 1991 as a Lieutenant with the Union City Fire Department after 23 years of service.

He is also survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Pam & Hank Warren of Union City; his son and daughter-in-law, Jim & Teri Skoda of McDonough, Georgia; his sister-in-law, Valeria Bruesehoff of Sheboygan, Wisconsin; nine grandchildren, Lisa Jones of Union City, Keith (Melissa) Jones of Troy, Jordan Skoda and Kevin Jones both of McDonough, Georgia, Darrell (Nicole) Jones of Birmingham, Alabama; Beth Warren and Christy Warren both of Greenville, South Carolina, Sarah Warren of Gainesville, Florida and Steven Skoda of Anderson, South Carolina; and seven great-grandchildren, Zac Jones, Katelin Jones and Eli Jones all of Troy, Bella Jones and Ellie Jones both of Birmingham, Alabama, and Kaleigh Linton and Connor Gilstrap both of Greenville, South Carolina.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Bernice Skoda and his great-grandson, Samuel Keith Jones.

The family will receive friends in the Rosewood Room at Edmaiston-Mosley Funeral Home from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Friday.

Pallbearers will be Tommie Lemons, David Hazelwood, Allen Herchenhahn, Ted Blackwell, Ted Sample, Ron Fant, Paul Yates,  Jim Holford and David Miesner.
