Willard Robert Bagwell, 77, of Union City passed away 2:30 p.m. Friday, April 27, 2018, at his home.
Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Monday in the chapel of Edmaiston Mosley Funeral Home. Rev. John Carroll and Rev. Hugh Barksdale will officiate. Burial will follow in Obion County Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be held at Edmaiston Mosley Funeral Home from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Sunday and from 12:00 p.m. until the hour of services Monday.
Pallbearers will be Knox Faulkner, Nolan Faulkner, Hoyt Giffin, Derek Giffin, Brian Wilder, Ben Hardy and Austin Bagwell.
Honorary pallbearers will be H.E. Garrigan, Allen Nohsey, Norman Petty, Martha Lynn Kendall, David Kendall, Manye Bess Speed, Bill Wilder, Ralph Dale and Marietta Hardy, Debbie Tarkington, Mt. Zion Methodist Men, Reba Harris and the Charles Roberts Sunday School Class.
Memorial contributions may take the form of donations to Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, c/o Mike Hampton, 5361 Old Troy-Hickman, Road, Union City, Tennessee 38261, Hometown Walk of Hope, P.O. Box 482, Union City, Tennessee 38281 or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
Robert was born December 27, 1940, in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, son of the late Willard Wiley and Louise (Houser) Bagwell. He married Jenny Lou (Hardy) Bagwell August 4, 1967. She survives. Robert retired after 32 years of service as an educator having taught at South Fulton Middle School and Union City Middle School and Union City High School. He retired with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel in the Tennessee National Guard after 29 1/2 years of service and had been an insurance agent with Colonial Life Insurance Company for 10 years. Robert was a member of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church and a member of the National Corriedal Association. He was instrumental in the formation of the Obion County Junior Livestock Sheep Show and the Little Twisters Basketball League in the Union City School System. Robert was a member of the Obion County Fair Association and enjoyed fishing.
He is also survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Laura (Bagwell) and Dan Faulkner of South Fulton; one son and daughter-in-law, Merritt and Jennifer Bagwell of Kevil, Kentucky; five grandchildren, Knox Faulkner, Nolan Faulkner and Leah Beth Faulkner all of South Fulton and Evelyn Bagwell and Austin Bagwell both of Kevil Kentucky; and two sisters and onebrother-in-law, Sandra Bagwell of Union City and Susan and Mack Robinson of Memphis.
He was also preceded in death by one daughter, Rebecca Leah Bagwell.
