Richard M. Smith, 84, of Union City passed away 5:08 p.m. Wednesday, December 6, 2023, at The Waters of Union City.

Funeral services will be conducted 3:00 p.m. Saturday in the chapel of Edmaiston Mosley Funeral Home. Frank Dalton will officiate. Burial will follow in Hornbeak City Cemetery.

Visitation will be held at Edmaiston Mosley Funeral Home from 2:30 p.m. until the hour of services Saturday.

Pallbearers will be family members.

Richard was born September 15, 1939, in Tampa, Florida, son of the late Jason and Idella Wells Smith. He married Charlotte (Cashon) Smith October 10, 1986. She preceded him in death November 16, 2018. Richard was a retired investment advisor for many years in Union City and was a member of Grace Presbyterian Church in Troy.

He is survived by two sons, Richard M. Smith, Jr. and wife Barbara of Tallahassee, Florida and Jason Smith and wife Tina of Sevierville; two daughters, Sarah Bannister of Dorchester, Massachusetts and Susannah Murphy of Plymouth, Massachusetts; three step daughters, Ann Bird and husband Joe of Memphis, Wendy Dalton and husband Frank of Troy and Beth Hutcheson of Union City; two step sons, Joe D. Spicer, Jr. of Union City and Richie Spicer and wife Sandi of Hendersonville; his beloved niece, Stephanie Braddock Kelleher and husband Brian of Dade City, Florida; 23 grandchildren; and 39 great grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by one son, Jon Smith; and his sister, Helen Braddock.
