October 6, 1939 – August 31, 2020
Mr. Richard Arnold, 80, of Union City went home to be with the Lord Monday morning, August 31, 2020, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Union City.
Funeral services will be conducted 1:00 p.m. Thursday at Second Baptist Church in Union City. Rev. Will Arnold, Pastor Sam Coleman and Pastor Justin Hiens will officiate. Burial will follow in East View Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Mr. Arnold's grandsons and JJ Chandler and Charlie Bone.
Honorary pallbearers will be Obion County Commissioners and Charlie Curtis.
Visitation will be held at Second Baptist Church from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Wednesday and from 11:00 a.m. until the hour of services Thursday.
Edmaiston Mosley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Richard was born October 6, 1939, in Troy, son of the late Elmer Lee and Louise (Quinton) Arnold. He married Patty (Carter) Arnold September 1, 1961. She survives. Richard was a graduate of Union City High School and attended the University of Miami on a football scholarship. He was a member of Second Baptist Church where he had served as a deacon and Sunday School teacher. Richard was elected to the Obion County Commission and served District 4 for 26 years. He received the Robert M. Worley Outstanding County Official of the year award in 2017 presented by the Tennessee County Services Association and served as the president of the Tennessee County Commissioners Association 2018-2019. He had served on the Cates Landing Port Authority Board, Baptist Memorial Hospital Union City Indigent Board, past president of the Union City Lions Club and past president of the Union City Band Boosters. Richard was a former TSSAA football and baseball official, coached youth league baseball in Union City for many years and was a volunteer mentor for the Tennessee Promise Program. He was a retired saleman for the Jordan Company in Memphis.
He is also survived by his three children, Trent Arnold (Leslee), Kim Sherwood (Larry) and Troy Arnold (Amy) all of Union City; nine grandchildren, Kelsey Arnold, Will Arnold, Olivia Chandler (JJ), Tyler Sherwood (Kayla), Camron Sherwood, Branson Sherwood, Carter Arnold and Conner Arnold all of Union City and Dawn Lattus (Erick) of Hickman, Kentucky; and five great grandchildren, Brandt Sherwood, Bode Sherwood and Knox Chandler all of Union City and Jude Lattus and Nora Kate Lattus both of Hickman, Kentucky.
