Obituary

Mr. Peter D. â??Peteâ? Parker, 75, of Union City died 8:45 p.m. Friday, October 18, 2013, at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville.

Funeral services will be conducted 5:00 p.m. Wednesday in the chapel of Edmaiston-Mosley Funeral Home. Brother Gary Stafford will officiate. Burial will follow in Mound View Cemetery in Mt. Vernon, Ohio.

The family will receive friends at Edmaiston-Mosley Funeral Home from 3:00 p.m. until the hour of services Wednesday.

Mr. Parker was born May 23, 1938, in Massillion, Ohio, son of the late Gregory Thurston and Margaret Ellen (Doyle) Parker. He was a member of Second Baptist Church in Union City where he had sung in the choir for twenty five years. He had been a member of Dwayne Ervinâ??s Sunday School class for many years and was currently a member of Joe Wheatâ??s Sunday School class. He was an avid sports fan of baseball and football and especially the Ohio State Buckeyes. In his younger years he played minor league baseball in Akron, Ohio. He was a 1956 graduate of Akron East High School where he played tuba in the band and was a cross country runner. He served in the United States Air Force for four years where he was stationed in Austin, Texas as a B-52 mechanic. After his military service he began working at Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company in Akron, Ohio. He transferred to the Goodyear plant in Union City in 1983 and retired in 1998 with thirty six years of service finishing his career working in the serving area. He was a 32nd degree Mason with the Star Lodge in Cuyahoga, Falls Ohio. He was happily married to his wife Barbara (Loyd) Parker for thirty one years. Pete and Barbara enjoyed attending the community concerts in Union City and the Jackson Symphony. He was an avid cat and dog lover. Pete was a member of the Wingfoot Retirees, SOAR and United Steel Workers 878 in Union City. He was a man of the bible. Pete was in a bible study group with Roy White, Jerry King and Aaron Boone. The group would meet in various restaurants to discuss bible teaching.

In addition to his wife he is survived by three sons and one daughter-in-law, David Parker and Dwight Parker both of Akron, Ohio and Gregory and Sylvia Parker and their three children,
Mariah Parker, Joshua Parker and Anna Parker all of Lewisville, Texas.
