Peggy Fay Caton, 84, of Union City passed away peacefully on July 10, 2026, surrounded by her family. She was born on October 25, 1941, in Ridgely, TN, Peggy was the daughter of the late Hildred Caton and Ruth Stanfield Caton.

Peggy was a trailblazer. She made history as the first female police officer in Union City, Tennessee. This accomplishment filled her with pride throughout her life. She loved sharing stories of her time as a police officer. At a time when few women wore badges, she broke barriers with courage and determination, inspiring others to follow.

Peggy found joy in the simple things in life. She loved traveling, creating beautiful crafts, cheering for the Tennessee Volunteers, and spending time with her loved ones. She had a quick wit and a gift for making people laugh. You could never predict what she would say next. Her lively spirit, infectious laughter, and vibrant personality brought happiness to many family gatherings and friendships. Most importantly, Peggy fiercely loved her family. They were the center of her world, and she cherished every moment with them. Her love, wisdom, and strength will carry on through the generations she leaves behind.

Peggy is survived by her daughter, Sidney (Dale) Vowell of Russellville, Kentucky; her beloved grandchildren, Josh (Breanne) Garrity of Dresden, Tennessee, Caleb (Victoria) Garrity of Union City, Tennessee, Emily Garrity of New Orleans, Louisiana, Matt (Crystal) Oliver of Henderson, Kentucky, and Taylor (Cody) Escue of Dyersburg, Tennessee; and seven cherished great-grandchildren, Ember, Max, and Miles Garrity of Dresden, TN, Claire, Reagan and soon to be, John David Oliver of Henderson, KY, Kimberly McKinney of Union City, TN, and Zach Chumley of Union City, TN. She is also survived by a loving sister, Gail Caton of Gates, TN, and several nieces and nephews who brought her great pride and happiness.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, David Oliver, and her brothers, Gerald Caton, R.V. “Bo” Stewart, and R.C. Stewart.

Peggy’s life was marked by courage, perseverance, laughter, and unconditional love. She leaves behind a legacy of strength and determination that will never be forgotten. While her family will miss her deeply, they find comfort in knowing that the memories she created and the love she shared will remain in their hearts forever.

A celebration of Peggy’s life will be held at 12:00 p.m. Saturday, July 18, 2026, in the chapel of Edmaiston Mosley Funeral Home with her cousin, Ric Bailey, officiating. Visitation will be held at Edmaiston Mosley Funeral Home from 11:00 a.m. until the hour of services Saturday, July 18, 2026.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you honor her memory by donating to St. Jude or spending time with those you love, sharing a laugh, and living with the same spirit that Peggy embraced every day.
