September 26, 1922 – December 7, 2017
Opal Allen Chilton, 95, of Hornbeak passed away 12:25 p.m. Thursday, December 7, 2017, at Magnolia Place Assisted Living in Union City.
Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Saturday in the chapel of Edmaiston Mosley Funeral Home. Brother Jerry Leggett will officiate. Burial will follow in Antioch Cemetery near Hornbeak.
Visitation will be held at Edmaiston Mosley Funeral Home from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Friday and from 10:00 a.m. until the hour of services Saturday.
Pallbearers will be Gary Riley, Tim Spicer, Jimmy Jones, Jimmy Edmaiston, Brent Riley and Jammi Jones.
Honorary pallbearers will be James Edmaiston, Allen Edmaiston, Gerald Garner and Ron Foster.
Mrs. Chilton was born September 26, 1922, in Lake County, daughter of the late Leonard Huelyn and Dolly Arvel (Jarred) Wilmurth. She married Ray Lee Chilton September 9, 1939. He preceded her in death on February 4, 1987. Ms. Opal retired as a Avon sales representative in 2016 after 44 years of service. She received numerous awards from Avon including being a member of Avon's President's Club for top sales in her area. She enjoyed gardening and antiques. Ms. Opal attended Mt. Ararat Cumberland Presbyterian Church.
She is survived by six daughters, Glenda Towery of South Fulton, Carol (James) Edmaiston and Pat (Gerald) Garner all of Union City, Dolly (Gary) Riley of Troy, Marlene (Tim) Spicer of Samburg and Darlene (Jimmy) Jones of Tiptonville; one sister, Helen (Maurice) Shirkey of Troy; twelve grandchildren, Lori (Trent) Robertson, Allen (Beth) Edmaiston and Ron Foster all of Union City, Jimmy (Cassie) Edmaiston of Trenton, Stephanie (Greg) Smith of Oakland, Laina Nicks and Lisa Marlow both of South Fulton, Melissa (Sean) Reynolds and Brent (Megan) Riley all of Franklin, Dawn (Chase) Taylor of Trimble, Heather (Will) Harris of Elizabethtown, Kentucky and Jammi Jones of Caruthersville, Missouri; 28 great grandchildren; and 5 great great grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by one grandson, Christopher Shawn Freeman; one son-in-law, Billy Towery; three sisters, Virginia Gaines, Adelle Goodman and Bessie Morris; and one brother, Travis Wilmurth.
