Mrs. Montie Ruth Argo, 80, of Union City died 10:55 a.m. Tuesday, December 29, 2009, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Union City.
Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Thursday in the Chapel of Edmaiston-Mosley Funeral Home. Brother Jerry Leggett and Brother Eddie Mallonee will officiate. Burial will follow in East View Cemetery.
Mrs. Argo was born April 3, 1929, in Obion County, daughter of the late Elbert Rhea and Lena Melvina (Chappell) Newman. She married Charles Weldon "Red" Argo on January 18, 1946. He died May 3, 1998. She was a retired waitress and homemaker and a member of Second Baptist Church.
She is survived by her daugher and son-in-law, Carolyn and Richard Doughten of Troy; two sons and daughters-in-law, Melvin and Tina Argo of Union City and Kelvin and Denise Argo of Belleville, Illinois; her sister, Laverne Walton of Union City; eight grandchildren and their spouses; Matt and Elizabeth Doughten of Rives, Weldon Doughten and Dawn Tidwell of Arlington, Jimmy Doughten of Troy, Michael and Lisa Argo, Christy Argo and Mandy and Josh Barner all of Union City, Steven Argo and Emily Argo both of Belleville, Illinois; and three great grandchildren, Zachary Davidson, Gavin Argo and Aidan Argo all of Union City.
She was preceded in death by four sisters, Octie Bone, Catherine Johnson, Para Daniel and Lena Margaret Armstrong and her brother, James Rhea Newman.
The family will receive friends in the Rosewood Room at Edmaiston-Mosley Funeral Home from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Wednesday.
Pallbearers will be Matt Doughten, Weldon Doughten, Jimmy Doughten, Michael Argo, Jimmy Armstrong and Charlie Bone.
Memorial contributions may take the form of donations to Second Baptist Church Benevolence Fund, 831 N. Everett Blvd, Union City, TN. 38261.
