Obituary

Michael Dean Cary, 63, of Woodland Mills went to his eternal home in Heaven on March 27, 2016, after a short battle with brain cancer.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday in the chapel of Edmaiston-Mosley Funeral Home. Brother Rick Burton will officiate the celebration of Michael's life. Burial will follow in Mt. Ararat Cemetery in Troy. His physical body will temporarily rest there (1 Thessalonians 4:13-18).

Visitation will be held at Edmaiston-Mosley Funeral Home from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Tuesday.

Pallbearers will be nephews Travis Cary, Trent Cary, Tanner Cary, Christian Cary, and brothers-in-law Richard Brandon and Ronnie Craddock. Honorary pallbearer will be grandson Holdan Cary.

Michael was born on November 30, 1952, in Detroit, Michigan, son of the late Calvin, Sr., and Ella (Hogland) Cary. He married Cheryl (McMullen) Cary June 9, 1979. He served in the Army National Guard 1971-1977. He served as alderman and later as mayor of Woodland Mills 1993-1998.  He worked at Goodyear as a draftsman for 30 years, Obion County Recycle Center as director for 12 years, and Red River Waste Solutions in marketing and sales for 16 months. He was an active member of First Baptist Church of Woodland Mills where he taught Sunday School and played the bass guitar for worship. He loved the Lord with all his heart, soul, mind, and strength. He also deeply and unconditionally loved his family and friends. He was known for his tender servant's heart and for putting others' needs before his own.

He is survived by his wife Cheryl of Union City; four children Amanda Cary of Jackson, Adam (Brittany) Cary of Hickman, KY, Aaron Cary of Ina, IL, and Allison (Dan) Harwell of Jackson; two grandchildren Holdan and Haddie Cary, both of Hickman, KY; two brothers Calvin, Jr., (Shirley) Cary of Union City and Kenneth (Vonda) Cary of Troy; one sister Jacqueline (Richard) Brandon of North Lake, IL; mother-in-law Bernice McMullen of Union City; sister-in-law Dana (Ronnie) Craddock of Martin; and several nieces and nephews.

He was also preceded in death by his infant children Timothy and Kathryn Cary and father-in-law Dale McMullen.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Hometown Walk of Hope (P.O. Box 482, Union City, TN 38281) and First Baptist Church's Mission Fund (P.O. Box 8, Woodland Mills, TN 38271).
