Marvin Williams 1947-2015
Mr. James Marvin Williams, Sr., 67, of Troy passed away 10:32 p.m. Saturday, September 5, 2015, at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville.
Funeral services will be conducted 1:00 p.m. Wednesday at
Calvary Baptist Church
in Union City. Dr. Melvin Poe will officiate. Burial will follow in Beech Cemetery near Union City.
Visitation will be held at Edmaiston Mosley Funeral Home from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Tuesday and at
Calvary Baptist Church
from 11:00 a.m. until the hour of services Wednesday.
Pallbearers will be Dennis Dean, Wesley McClure, Wesley Thompson, Bobby James, Freddie Preuett, Arthur Bond and C.F. Blankenship.
Honorary pallbearers will be Jamie Williams, Tyler Burress, David Thompson, Barry Thompson, Nickey Sadler, and Marty Ables.
Mr. Williams was born September 27, 1947, in McKenzie, son of the late James Williams and the late Cora Ann (Thompson) Hood. He married Judy Elaine (Morris) Williams January 4, 1969. She survives. Mr. Williams had been employed at the former Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company in Union City and served as secretary of United Steel Workers Local 878 for several years. He served in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War and retired from the Tennessee National Guard. Mr. Williams was a member of Calvary Baptist Church where he had served as a deacon and was former Sunday School superintendent. He was a member of the Wesley McClure Sunday School Class, had helped with the Upward basketball league, served on mission trips and taken part in the live nativity at Calvary Baptist. Mr. Williams traveled to several churches to share his testimony about his heart transplant that he received in 2009. He was a member of the Union City Masonic Lodge for many years.
He is also survived by two daughters and one son-in-law, Brenda Ross of Martin and Mariah and Eric Burress of Troy; one son, James Marvin "Jamie" Williams, Jr. of Hickman, Kentucky; two half sisters, Patsy Petts of Columbia, South Carolina and Tammy Cook of Murfreesboro; eight grandchildren, Blake Caldwell, Tyler Burress, Matthew Caldwell, Alex Williams, Kelcie Burress, Anthony Williams, Grayson Brinkley, and Marlee Williams; and one great grandson, Jordan Burress.
