Mr. Marvin J. Beard, 93, of the Walnut Log Community passed away 5:30 p.m. Friday, August 9, 2019, at his home.
Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Monday in the chapel of Edmaiston Mosley Funeral Home. Brother Gary Haynes and Brother Charles Southerland will officiate. Burial will follow in Mt. Manuel Cemetery.
Visitation will be held at Edmaiston Mosley Funeral Home from 12:00 p.m. until the hour of services Monday.
Pallbearers will be Chris Beard, Levi Beard, Brandon Beard, Tim Hoefle, Zac Hoefle, Kevin Pierce, and James Adkirson.
Mr. Beard was born November 18, 1925, in Obion County, son of the late Franklin "Gene" and Ollie (Timmons) Beard. He married Geraldine Ada (Henson) Beard August 3, 1946, just celebrating their 73rd wedding anniversary. She survives.
Marvin served during WWII in the US Army 76th Infantry Division-Combat Engineers as a Pfc truck driver and drove numerous vehicles from heavy duty trucks to the captain's jeep. He continued as a cross country truck driver after leaving the service. After retiring, he drove an Obion County School bus for 10 years along with an excavation business. He enjoyed fishing Reelfoot Lake, coon hunting and cattle. He attended Walnut Log Baptist Church.
He is also survived by two sons Ken (Jennifer) Beard and Danny Beard both of Union City; three sisters Geneva Forrester and Beverly Cartwright of Union City, and Fannie Jo Morton of Houston, Texas; seven grandchildren Levi Beard and Brandon Beard of Union City, Felicia (Tim) Hoefle, and Chris (Raychel) Beard of Wright City, MO, Kayce (Kevin) Pierce of O'Fallon, MO, Alicia Beard of Cadet, MO, and Amy Browne of Queen Creek, AZ.; fourteen great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by one son Ron Beard, six brothers JW, Claude, Don, Walter, Dale and Waymon Beard and four sisters Mary Lee Ducan Morris Simmons, Mattie Dehart, Velma Beard and Betty Beard.
