Obituary

Martha Lynne Deniston Taylor, a beacon of love and gentleness in the lives of all who knew her, passed away peacefully on November 19, 2025, in Union City, Tennessee.

Born on June 27, 1943, in Rector, Arkansas, Martha's journey was one of warmth and devotion to her loved ones. From her roots in her beloved Rector, to her career as a legal secretary in Memphis, and finally her retired years in Union City near her daughters Tracy and Laura, Martha cherished her time spent with those near and dear to her.

Martha, the daughter of Orville and Ruth Deniston, and sister to John, graduated from Rector High School in 1961 alongside many lifelong friends, including Glenda and Corky. While she moved to Tennessee to raise her family in Brentwood, then Memphis, Martha remained a Rector girl at heart—Labor Day celebrations were always her favorite time to visit, and she proudly carried her community's values and traditions with her everywhere she went.

Martha is preceded in death by her parents, her brother John, and her precious, beloved son, Wayne Taylor, Jr., whom her family takes great solace in knowing she is reunited with once more after many years of longing. Martha's legacy is carried forward by her devoted family—especially her grandchildren, who affectionately knew her as "Gee." She is survived by her daughters and their husbands, Laura Taylor Terrell and Bobby, along with Tracy Taylor Dyer and Johnny; as well as her adored grandchildren, Alex Terrell and his wife Nora, Andrew Terrell and his wife Raleigh, Whittney Lee Holt and Matt, and Caroline Lee. Each of them was a source of immense joy in her life, and she loved to spend her later years on the sidelines of soccer games, cross country meets, band performances, and many graduations alongside Tracy and Laura; she loved being "Gee" more than anything.

Martha's life was underlined by her unwavering faith. A longtime member of the First United Methodist Church, she committed herself to living a life in alignment with her Christian beliefs. And while the COVID pandemic meant separation from loved ones all across the world, Martha used it as an opportunity to connect with First United Methodist via Zoom and found tremendous joy in the fellowship these services provided, from Rector all the way to Union City.

Graveside services will be held on Friday November 21, 2025 beginning at 2:00 p.m. at Woodland Heights Cemetery with Rev. Jonathan Beville officiating and eulogy by her daughter, Tracy.
