Marjorie Ann Sleath Kendall was born to Vivian Andrew Sleath and Sadie Marie Sleath in San Francisco, California on March 6, 1940. She passed away peacefully on Thursday December 1, 2022.
She graduated from R.J. Reynolds High School in Winston Salem, North Carolina in 1957 before heading to Barbados with her family. There, she met and married Jim Kendall, who was stationed in the Navy, and would start a long and fruitful marriage. She was a faithful wife for a week shy of 64 years. She retired from the Obion County Central School System after 40 years as a caring and beloved cook at Hornbeak Junior High and Obion County Central High School. Marjorie was a faithful servant of Christ and the New Ebenezer Cumberland Presbyterian Church where she served as a choir director and treasurer for many years.
For those who knew her, she was remembered as a great cook with everyone loving her rolls, cookie and cinnamon rolls. She was one of the most hospitable people around always inviting and hosting families to her home.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James Robert Kendall on June 22, 2022, parents, Vivian Andrew Sleath and Sadie Marie (Haley) Sleath; and is survived by her two sisters, Barbara Clifford of Duxbury, Massachusetts and Nancy Smith of Belfast, Maine. Besides her sisters, she is survived by her children, Robert Andrew Kendall and wife Robin (Brewer) Kendall of St. Thomas, Virgin Islands, Kerrie Lynn (Kendall) Bargery and husband Barry Bargery of Munford, Tennessee, Jon Steven Kendall and wife Camille (Stricklin) Kendall of Troy, Tennessee and James Barry Kendall and wife Julie (Clanton) Kendall of Obion, Tennessee, as well as 21 grandchildren and 35 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted 12:00 p.m. Monday, December 5, 2022, at New Ebenezer Cumberland Presbyterian Church near Troy. Rev. Mitch Boulton will officiate. Burial will follow in New Ebenezer Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be grandsons.
Visitation will be held at New Ebenezer Cumberland Presbyterian Church from 10:00 a.m. until the hour of services Monday.
Edmaiston Mosley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
