Obituary

Mr. Charles Leroy Parnell, 88, of Union City died 3:12 p.m. Sunday, April 13, 2014, at Waverly Health & Rehab in Wavery.

Funeral services will be conducted 1:00 p.m. Tuesday in the chapel of Edmaiston-Mosley Funeral Home. Brother Steve Gatlin will officiate. Burial will follow in East View Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at Edmaiston-Mosley Funeral Home from 10:00 a.m. until the hour of services Tuesday.

Pallbearers will be Joey Kennedy, Jorell Parnell, Josh Gatlin, Nick Gatlin, Adam Gatlin and Kalob Parnell.

Mr. Parnell was born May 4, 1925, in Newbern, son of the late Ed and Bertha (Long) Hallum Parnell. He married Leah (Bragg) Parnell May 19, 1973. She died August 1, 1995. He was a retired carpenter having been employed by Allen Searcy Contractors. Mr. Parnell was a World War II United States Navy veteran and a member of Jones-Walker Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4862 in Union City.

He is survived by five daughters and three sons-in-law, Bertha Workman of Crutchfield, Kentucky, Hope and Charles Bing of Martin, Sue Parnell of McKenzie, Catherine and Steve Gatlin of McEwen and Sarah and Mike Baker of Blytheville, Arkansas; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Edward and Sharon Parnell and Kennett Parnell all of Troy; and Mike and Linda Bowers of Huntingdon; and several grandchildren; and great grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by one daughter, Kaye Maceri; two sons, Jeff Bowers and Rick Bowers; one grandson, Lee Parnell; and one brother, Albert Hallum.
