Obituary

Larry Neil Fluty died peacefully in his sleep at Baptist Memorial Hospital – Union City on April 22, 2020 at the age of 83.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, a graveside service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Friday at Obion County Memorial Gardens in Union City. The Reverend James Gunter will officiate. There will be no visitation and friends are asked to meet at the cemetery at the time of service. The family encourages guests to practice social distancing and use precautions.

Pallbearers will be: Brian Cunningham, Brandon Cunningham, Cheston Hoffman, Mason Hoffman, James Dunn, Bobby Hall, Bryan Cranford, Donnie Hutchison. Honorary pallbearers will be: Bud Garrison, J.W. Storey, Kenneth Cleek, and Ronnie Hutchison.

Arrangements are being made through Edmaiston-Mosely Funeral Home.

Larry was born on July 19, 1936 to the late Brown and Alice (Kinsey) Fluty of Protemus, Tennessee in his log cabin home. After a move to Rives, Larry graduated from Rives High School Class of 1954. Larry volunteered to serve in the United States Army and was stationed for a year and a half in territorial Alaska as a Military Police Officer. After leaving the service with an Honorable Discharge, Larry returned to the family farm. He later accepted a position at the former Reelfoot Meat Packing Company of Union City where he quickly rose to be the foreman of two departments. Larry retired from Reelfoot upon its closure in 1993. Larry married Margaret Davis of Hornbeak on March 3, 1963. While working at Reelfoot, he purchased the family farm and enjoyed raising farm animals. Upon his retirement, he enjoyed spending his time at Junior Oliver's Livestock Sales, raising ducks and geese, and spending time with his family. When he was able, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and being outdoors.
Larry was a lifelong member of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church and attended Mount Ararat Cumberland Presbyterian of Troy and Protemus Cumberland Presbyterian, his childhood home church. Larry was also a member of the Free and Accepted Masons and tried to demonstrate the qualities of Masonry in his daily life. He was a member of Western Sun Masonic Lodge #88 in Troy.

He was preceded in death by his father Brown and his mother Alice. Larry is survived by his wife, Margaret (Davis) Fluty, originally of Hornbeak; two daughters, Janet (Joe) Cunningham of Shawtown and Belinda (Mike) Hoffman of Protemus; four grandchildren Brian Cunningham of Shawtown, Brandon (Tonia) Cunningham of Shawtown, Mason Hoffman of Protemus, and Cheston Hoffman of Protemus; two great-grandchildren David Cunningham of Shawtown and Jacob Cunningham of Shawtown; several cousins and extended relatives.
