Larry Doxey, 69, of Troy passed away 2:25 p.m. Sunday, July 2, 2017, at Union City Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.
Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Wednesday in the chapel of Edmaiston Mosley Funeral Home. Brother Eddie Mallonee will officiate. Burial will follow in Obion County Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be held at Edmaiston Mosley Funeral Home from 12:00 p.m. until the hour of services Wednesday.
Pallbearers will be Bobby Wyatt, Sam Stephens, Maurice Carroll, B.J. Phillips, Sam Sinclair, Sr. and Royce Morgan.
Honorary pallbearers will be Jim Adcock and Billy Woody.
Memorial contributions may take the form of donations to Second Baptist Church Building Fund, 831 N. Everett Blvd., Union City, Tennessee 38261 or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
Larry was born February 24, 1948, in Union City, son of the late Richard Thomas and Mae (Faircloth) Doxey. He was a graduate of Union City High School and attended Jackson State Community College. Larry served in the United States Army in Vietnam from 1968 to 1970 and served in the Tennessee National Guard from 1985 to 2008. Larry began his radio career in 1967 on 1410 WCMT AM. He worked his way up from DJ to general manager during his radio career in broadcasting. During his career Larry had also worked for WENK, KYTN and WCDZ. Larry was a Mason and Knights Templar, lifetime member of Veterans of Foreign Wars, Lifetime member of Vietnam Veterans Association, member of the American Legion, and former vice president of the Tennessee Association of Broadcasters. At the time of his illness Larry had been employed as a funeral assistant at Edmaiston Mosley Funeral Home. He was a member of Second Baptist Church in Union City where he served as a greeter and was a member of the Men's Thursday morning prayer group.
He is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Krista and Ron Costello of Martin; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Alan and Courtney Doxey of Sevierville and Alex Doxey of Troy; three grandchildren, Tyler Sawyers of Martin, Collin Cloonan of Sevierville and Allie Costello of Union City; and one granddaughter that is due in November, Callie Ruth Doxey.
