Obituary

Kathy Ann Southern, 80, of Union City passed away 7:00 a.m. Tuesday, December 26, 2023, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Union City.

Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Sunday in the chapel of Edmaiston Mosley Funeral Home. Brother Eddie Mallonee will officiate. Burial will follow in Obion County Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be held at Edmaiston Mosley Funeral Home from 11:00 a.m. until the hour of services Sunday.

Pallbearers will be Ethan Pruett, Sean Lane, Chad Davis, David Foshee, John Eggert and Tony Southern.

Memorial contributions may take the form of donations to Jones Walker Post 4862 , P.O. Box 206, Union City, Tennessee 38281 or Community Bible Church , 1413 South Home Street, Union City, Tennessee 38261.

Kathy was born February 13, 1943, in St. Louis, Missouri, daughter of the late Everett Lee Childress and the late Fairy "Sally" Evelyn (Eaves) Ellis. She married Ed Southern October 9, 2018. Kathy had been employed as a beauty operator at the former Colonial Beauty Salon in Union City and retired from the Tennessee Department of Children's Services. Kathy had been a member of the Auxiliary of Jones Walker Post 4862 since 1962. She served two terms as president of the Auxiliary of the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States for the state of Tennessee. Kathy was then elected to serve on the National Council of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary. She was a member of Community Bible Church in Union City and had been active in many civic charities thru the auxiliary.

She is survived by her husband, Ed Southern of Union City; three daughters, Sharon "Jan" Foshee and husband David of Nesbit, Mississippi, Karen "Jamie" Lane and Jennifer Eggert and husband John all of Union City; her stepdaughter, Farrah Tune and husband Derek of Caruthersville, Missouri; 8 grandchildren; and 23 great grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by her son, John Everett Lane; two grandsons, Tyler Jackson and Cory Lane; one great granddaughter, Lilly Paugh; her stepson, Ed Southern, Jr.; two sisters, Betty Jeanne Grace and Farryce Cook; and one brother, Thomas Childress.
