Obituary

Johnny Glenn Newsom, 69, of the Shawtown community passed away 8:15 p.m. Saturday, July 3, 2021, at his home.

Funeral services will be conducted 4:00 p.m. Wednesday in the chapel of Edmaiston Mosley Funeral Home. Reverend Robert Craig and Jerry Ivey will officiate.  Burial will follow in Cobbs Chapel Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Remington Rudd, Stacy Rudd, Derrin Isbell, David Bailey, Bobby Gray and Ron Jackson.

Honorary pallbearers will be Jerry Ivey, Gary Holt, Joe Anderson and Stevie Alexander.

Visitation will be held at Edmaiston Mosley Funeral Home from 2:00 p.m. until the hour of services Wednesday.

Johnny was born January 3, 1952, in Union City, son of the late Dewey and Nora (Melton) Newsom. He married Beverly (Brown) Newsom November 26, 1971. She survives. Johnny retired from the former Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company after 38 years of service where he was employed as tire builder, maintenance worker and served as a union steward. He was a member of the Church of Christ.

He is also survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Brandy and Stacy Rudd of Hornbeak; one son, Shawn Newsom of Martin; one grandson, Remington Rudd of Hornbeak; two sisters, Wanda Crowell "Hailey" and Barbara Barnett; one brother, Cecil Newsom; and several nieces and nephews.

He was also preceded in death two sisters, Patricia Ann Newsom and Hazel Baker; and three brothers, D.C. Newsom, Will J. Newsom and Mike Newsom.
