Mr. John Thomas Finley, Sr., 65, of McKenzie, died 9:30 a.m. Thursday, July 5, 2012 at Oak Manor Nursing Home in McKenzie. He fought a long battle with lung cancer.

Memorial services will be conducted for Mr. Finley 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 14, 2012 at Brummitt-McKenzie Funeral Home in McKenzie. Dewayne Thomas will officiate. Burial will follow at Shiloh Cemetery in McKenzie. A meal will follow at Macedonia Community Center.

Mr. Finley was born September 29, 1946 in McKenzie, son of the late James Sherrel (1970) and Maxie Wilma (Pryor) Finley (2001). John previously owned a successful auto repair business. He loved to have fun and played practical jokes on people.

He is survived by four children, John Finley Jr., Alice (Bob) Wright, Philip Finley and Scott Finley; five grandchildren Rebekah Finley, Sarah Finley, Kelly Wright, Todd Wright and Austin Loomis all of Michigan; three brothers, James W. Finley Sr. of Lansing, Michigan, Bob (Diane) Finley of Lansing, Michigan and Ted (Judy) Finley of McKenzie; two sisters, Laura Polly (Robert) Welliver and Maxie Faye Veloz of the Florida Keys. He leaves behind many loving nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Shirley Shappell (1997)

The family would like to thank Avalon Hospice and Oak Manor Nursing Facility for the kind, loving care they gave John during his illness.
