Mr. John Matt Barnes, 88, of Union City died 10:30 p.m. Monday, February 13, 2012, at the Obion County Nursing Home.

Funeral services will be conducted 1:00 p.m. Wednesday in the chapel of Edmaiston-Mosley Funeral Home. Brother Jerry Leggett and Brother Eddie Mallonee will officiate. Burial will follow in Obion County Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends at Edmaiston-Mosley Funeral Home from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Tuesday.

Pallbearers will be grandsons and grandsons-in-law.

The family requests memorials be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital , P.O. Box 1000, Dept. 142, Memphis, Tennessee 38148-0142, Second Baptist Church , 831 N. Everett Blvd., Union City, Tennessee 38261 or South Fulton Baptist Church , 509 Forestdale Ave., South Fulton, Tennessee 38257.

Mr. Barnes was born May 23, 1923, in Obion County, son of the late Fred Nichols and Alader (Easterwood) Barnes. He married the former Minner Jane Muse on December 6, 1945. She died November 24, 2006. He had been employed at the former Lear-Siegler Company in Union City and in the maintenance department of the Obion County Board of Education. He was a member of Second Baptist Church in Union City and was a ordained Deacon there. He was also a lifetime member of the Troy Masonic Lodge.

He is survived by his daughter, Yolanda "Lonnie" Morgan of Union City; two sons and daughters-in-law, Nicky and Jennifer Barnes of Union City and Genie and Letha Barnes of South Fulton; seven grandchildren and their spouses, Laura (Morgan) and Rob Kingrey, Lance and Julie Morgan, Rance and Pattie Barnes, Crystal (Barnes) and Charles Meade, Micah Barnes and Caroline (Barnes) and Scott Coleman, all of Union City, and Britt and Jennifer Barnes of Smyrna; two step-grandchildren and their spouses, Jennifer and Jeff Wallen of Salt Lake City, Utah and Jacob and Krista Davidson of South Fulton, fourteen great-grandchildren, Amelia Kingrey, Gavin Morgan, John Matt Morgan, Amberly Morgan, Rance Barnes Jr., Walker Barnes, Thomas Barnes, Nick Dial, Jennan Dial, Addie Meade, Carly Coleman and Miller Coleman, all of Union City, and Liam Barnes and Chloe Barnes, both of Symrna; six step-great-grandchildren, Tristan Wallen, Hope Wallen and Chance Wallen, all of Salt Lake City, Utah, Hadley Davidson of South Fulton and Brendan Meade and Chloe Meade, both of Union City; his sister, Ada Martha Cleek of Union City; and his brother, Jimmy Barnes of Union City.

He was also preceded in death by his son-in-law, Randy Morgan; his brother, Lacy Barnes; and four sisters, Betty Crabtree, Mozelle Barnes, Vivian Clayton and Verna Dugger.
