Joe Boyd Watts, 74, of Union City passed away 8:38 p.m. Friday, September 29, 2023, at Diversicare of Martin.
Funeral services will be conducted 1:00 p.m. Thursday, October 5, 2023, in the chapel of Edmaiston Mosley Funeral Home. Brother Curtis McLendon and Pastor Justin Hiens will officiate. Burial will follow in East View Cemetery.
Visitation will be held at Edmaiston Mosley Funeral Home from 10:00 a.m. until the hour of services Thursday.
Pallbearers will be David Crum, Travis Crum, Bill Davis, Rick Casey, Hank Keeling, Kenny Foy.
Honorary pallbearers will be Dickie McIntosh, David King, Russ Kirkland, Drew Herring, Charles Miller, Eddie Tittle, Robin Garland and Carl Borders.
Joe was born January 19, 1949, in Mayfield, Kentucky, son of the late Odus Lee Watts and the late Lois (Johnson) Swindle. He married Charlene (Keene) Watts October 2, 1970. She survives. Joe was a graduate of Union City High School and attended the University of Tennessee at Martin. He retired from the former Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company after 30 years of service. Joe served in the United States Army from 1970 to 1972. He was a member of Second Baptist Church in Union City where he played guitar during worship service. Joe was known from playing in numerous bands such as the 4 Speeds, the Shaggy Dogs, Big Odie and the Blue Indigo and Blind Red Rooster. Joe was a beloved husband, father and grandfather.
He is survived by his wife, Charlene Watts of Union City; one daughter and son-in-law, Joni and Tim James of Union City; one son and daughter-in-law, Coby and Kim Watts of Union City; two brothers, Mikey Watts and Darrell Watts both of Union City; one granddaughter, Olivia James of Union City, two grandsons, Carter Watts of Knoxville and Camden Watts of Union City; and several nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Rodger Watts and Johnny Watts.
