Joan
Pritchett
April 13, 1942 – March 20, 2020
Joan Crawford Pritchett, age 77, ran into the arms of Jesus, her sweet Savior, on March 20, surrounded by her loved ones from her home in Martin, Tennessee. She was a beloved wife of 57 years to James H. Pritchett, Sr, a dearly loved mom to Jim Pritchett, Jr (Suzanne), and a cherished Momma Joanie to James H. Pritchett, III and Lydia Elizabeth Pritchett.
Joan was born in Memphis Tennessee on April 13, 1942 to John and Scyble Crawford. She graduated from Bartlett High School and was educated through master's degree at the University of Tennessee at Martin where she met her husband, James. They were married on December 23, 1962. After graduation, she served in a variety of educational roles from teacher to principal to supervisor to school board member over 5 decades. She was a long-time and active member of First Baptist Church of Martin.
Joan was a kind, gentle, loving and treasured educator. She taught thousands of you in Weakley County; she greeted children with bright smiles and hugs at Martin Primary School as their principal; she taught at UTM as an amazing adjunct professor and at the Weakley County Board of Education as a kind, hard-working, endearing supervisor of grades K-8; until made impossible by the progression of her illness, Joan faithfully served on the Weakley County School Board until 2015. Her favorite students were grandchildren, James and Lydia, using creativity and object lessons to teach them new things every day. She was so proud of both of them and the adults they are now.
She was greeted in Heaven by her parents, John and Scyble Crawford, by her sister, Mary Kathryn (Snooky) Crawford O'Brien, by a host of delighted angels, and by her closest Friend, Jesus Christ.
In the interest of safety, a graveside service for family and close friends only will be conducted Sunday at 12:15 p.m. at East Side Cemetery in Martin. Bro David Brown, Dr. Mike Sams and Dr. Sing Oldham will officiate. A public celebration of her life will be announced in the future.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to:
