Freda Joan Smith Emrich, 86, of Union City went home to be with the Lord 12:37 a.m. Wednesday, December 30, 2020, at her home surrounded by her family.
Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Sunday in the chapel of Edmaiston Mosley Funeral Home. Brother Eddie Mallonee will officiate. Burial will follow in Obion County Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Ben Brown, Josh Robinson, Corey Ramsey, Shawn Johnson, Chris Akin, Brian Speed and Roger Woodward.
Visitation will be held at Edmaiston Mosley Funeral Home from 12:00 p.m. until the hour of services Sunday.
Joan was born January 15, 1934, in Kenton, daughter of the late Lonnie McKinley Smith and Gaddie Louise (West) Smith. She married Bill Emrich December 22, 1950. He preceded her in death September 27, 2020. Joan was a member of Second Baptist Church in Union City. She was a devoted wife and mother to her four children and also to several children she kept throughout the years. She was the best "Nanny" to many people. When her youngest grandchildren entered kindergarten, she began her career at Dixie Gun Works where she worked until her retirement. During the years she stayed at home, she was also an excellent seamstress. She made most of her clothes and those for her daughters. Joan even made her oldest daughter's wedding gown.
She is survived by three daughters, Judy (Larry) Robinson, Pat (Lynn) Ogden, and Lisa Adkins all of Union City; one son, Steve (Missy) Emrich of Union City; eight grandchildren, Josh (Selena) Robinson, Jaime (Shawn) Johnson, Yonna (Brian) Speed, Amanda (Corey) Ramsey, Candace (Chris) Akin, Ben (Emily) Brown, Kyle Adkins, Gina (David) McIntosh; seventeen great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; one sister, Jean Smith of Louisville; one sister-in-law, Wanda Smith of Tallahassee, Florida; one brother-in-law, Joe (Carolyn) Emrich of Livingston; and two sisters-in-law, Mary Ann Emrich of Union City and Annie Mae Emrich of Jackson; and several nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by one great granddaughter, Sophie Akin; one sister, Mary Willis; one brother, David Smith; and one son-in-law, David Adkins.
