Obituary

Jimmy Hayes, 81, of Union City went home to be with the Lord 7:44 a.m. Wednesday, May 26, 2021, at Jackson Madison County General Hospital.

Funeral services will be conducted 1:00 p.m. Tuesday in the chapel of Edmaiston Mosley Funeral Home. Brother Millard Hayes will officiate. Burial will follow in Fremont Cemetery.

Visitation will be held at Edmaiston Mosley Funeral Home from 11:00 a.m. until the hour of services Tuesday.

Pallbearers will Brent Hayes and his grandsons, Derek Whitson, Nathaniel Hayes, Dalton Owens, Jerry Hall, Jeremy Morris and Bryce Warner.

Honorary pallbearers will be Bill Smith, Charles Harmond, Gene Bone, Glenn Williams, Bill Hutchison, Brooks Duncan, Perry Barfield, Allen Nohsey, Larry Mink and Mike True.

Jimmy was born August 31, 1939, in Obion County, son of the late Holland and Viola (Lancaster) Hayes. He married the love of his life, Naomi Miller, on December 8, 1957 in Corinth, Mississippi. They were married 63 years. She survives.

He was of the Apostolic faith and attended Heritage Apostolic Church.

The family requests memorials be made to Hometown Walk of Hope, P.O. Box 482, Union City, Tennessee 38281, in honor of his grandson that was helped so much during his time at St. Jude.

Jimmy loved his family very much and was loved so much by them, as well as so many people in the community. He was a self-employed car mechanic and owner of Jimmy Hayes Motor Company for 52 years in April of this year. Jimmy was a graduate of Dixie High School in 1957 where he was a basketball standout and named All Star Player of the Obion County district of the same year. He always had a smile on his face and never met a stranger. Jimmy was a prankster and always had funny stories to tell about his antics. He enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren, restoring antique tractors, squirrel and rabbit hunting, scouting antique stores and flea markets with the love of his life and reading. Jimmy was a musician and played the guitar in church for several years.

Along with his wife, Jimmy is survived by two sons, Millard (Kim) Hayes of Union City and Brent (Mary) Hayes of Troy; one daughter, Amy Owens of Troy; one sister, Ivon King of Union City; eight grandchildren, Derek Whitson, Danielle (Jerry) Hall, Micah (Jeremy) Morris, Nathaniel (Jackie) Hayes, Lauren (Sean) Grindlay, Dalton Owens, Magen (Justin) Riley, and Bryce Warner and fiance' Eliazabeth Haberly; and seven great grandchildren, Owen Hall, Kimber Hayes, Karolyn Hayes, Harper Grindlay, Isla Grandlay, Dax Riley and Seeley Riley; his brother-in-law, Dickie Callens; and several nieces and nephews.

He was also preceded in death by one daughter, Donna Whitson; one sister, Dorothy Wall; one brother, Harvey Hayes; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Harry and Minnie Miller; his sister-in-law, Sandra Faye Callens; and one brother-in-law, O.P. King.
