Mr. Jesse King Whitesides, 86, of Troy passed away 5:59 a.m. Sunday, July 28, 2024, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis.
Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Thursday at Western Sun #88 Masonic Lodge. Carl Mills will officiate. Burial will follow in Rosehill Cemetery in Obion.
Pallbearers will be R.C. Mooney, Kenneth Sanders, Tim Bishop, Jonathan Ulderich, Paul Ulderich, Tom Ulderich and Tony Henson.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Wanderer's and E-Z Rodders Car Clubs.
Visitation will be held at Western Sun #88 Masonic Lodge from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Wednesday and from 10:00 a.m. until the hour of services Thursday.
Edmaiston Mosley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to Al Chymia Shriners or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital .
Jesse was born April 16, 1938, in Troy, son of the late Frank J and Jane DeLois (King) Whitesides. He married Betty (Hughes) Whitesides November 4, 1960. Jesse retired from Kohler in the Tool and Die department and taught Tool and Die at the Tennessee College of Applied Technology in Newbern. Promoting this trade was important to him. He became a Mason in 1970 and was a member of Western Sun #88 Masonic Lodge in Troy where he served as Master in 1976 and as Secretary for 29 years following. He was a plural member of Tyre Lodge #587 F & AM where he served as Secretary. Jesse was Grand Sword Bearer for the Grand Lodge of Tennessee in 1977. He became a York Rite Mason and Al Chymia Shriner in 1974 and was a plural member of Rizpah Shriners where he served as a hospital van driver, transporting many children to the Shriner Hospitals in the region. Jesse became a member of Goodwill Shrine Club in 1974 where he served as President and as Secretary. Jesse became a member of the Scottish Rite in 1976 and was a member of the Northwest Tennessee Scottish Rite Club where he served as President and as Secretary. He was a member of Troy Chapter #432 Order of the Eastern Star where he was a Worthy Patron five times. Jesse was bestowed honorary degrees of Scottish Rite KCCH in 1985, Scottish Rite 33rd Degree in 2005, Tralee Council Knight Masons #41, West Tennessee York Rite College #141, Order of The Purple Cross York Rite, and St. Stephens Conclave Red Cross of Constantine where he served as Puissant Sovereign and as Recorder.
Jesse was a member of Troy Church of Christ, had served on the Troy City Board of Aldermen for many years, was a past board member of the Obion County Fair Association, was a member of The Wanders and E-Z Rodders of West Tennessee Antique Car Clubs where he was past President and had been serving as Secretary for 15 years. Jesse loved everyone with his whole heart and was dedicated to his community. He was a wonderful husband and father to his children.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Betty Whitesides of Troy; four daughters, Jane Whitesides of Nashville, Betty Jo Bishop (Tim) of Saltillo, Mary Margaret Ulderich (Tom) Camden and Jessie Berner (Jami) of Sandpoint, Idaho; six grandchildren, Jonathan Ulderich (Bethany) of Camden, Emily Meadows (Zac) of Helena, Alabama, Paul Ulderich (Alayna) of Paris, Melissa Bishop of Port Orchard, Washington, Stephen Bishop of Seattle, Washington and Ian Berner of Greenfield; six great grandchildren; one brother, Joe Whitesides (Sherry) of Troy; one sister-in-law, Joyce Whitesides of Martin; one brother-in-law, Mike Rabinowitz of Newfoundland, Canada; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was also preceded in death by one brother, Tom Whitesides; and one sister, Melba Rabinowitz.
