Obituary

Gerald Robert "Jerry" Sergel, 85, of Union City died 9:00 a.m. Friday, August 17, 2012 at his home.

Graveside services will be conducted 10:00 a.m. Tuesday at Fremont Cemetery near Union City. Brother Rick Burton will officiate.

The family will receive friends at Edmaiston-Mosley Funeral Home from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Monday.

Pallbearers will be Ray Phillips, Ronnie Scherffius, Curtis Scherffius, Terry Chandler, Bill Hutchinson and James Pope.

Mr. Sergel was born February 18, 1927 in New York, son of the late Alfred Eugene and Irma Marie (Nagle) Sergel.  He married Agnes McManis on December 12, 1978. She survives. He was a fighter pilot in WW II in the Navel Air Force. He is a member of First Baptist Church of Woodland Mills and also was the owner/operator of several Amoco gas stations in Florida.

He is also survived by three sons, Gary Sergel of Florida, Mark Sergel of Marianna, Florida and Chris Sergel of Atlanta, Ga.; four daughters, Connie Sergel, Kim Sergel, Wendy Sergel and Sharon Sergel all of Florida; one sister, Judith Gelinas and several grand children, great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister and one grandson, Jason Sergel.
