Jean Hoffman "Grandma Jean", 88, of the Shawtown community passed away 7:05 p.m. Sunday, September 26, 2021, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Union City.
Funeral services will be conducted 3:00 p.m. Thursday at New Hope Bible Church near Union City. Brother Darrell Hoffman will officiate. Burial will follow in Antioch Cemetery near Hornbeak.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons.
Visitation will be held at New Hope Bible Church from 1:00 p.m. until the hour of services Thursday.
Edmaiston Mosley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Hoffman was born January 15, 1933, in Hornbeak, daughter of the late Alton "Racehorse" and Vera (Landrum) Dean. She was the widow of Amos "Cotton" Smith and Robert Hoffman. Jean was a homemaker and attended New Hope Bible Church. Jean had been a Sunday School teacher and worked in the church for many years. She touched many lives with her love. One of her grandsons put it best. She's like the mob, once you're in her life she never will let you out.
She is survived by four daughters, April Henderson (Danny) of the Walnut Log community, Judy Cheatham and Nena Mitchell both of the Shawtown community and Robin Long (Billy) of Union City one stepdaughter, Carolyn Region of St. Charles, Missouri; four sons, Vic Smith (Patty) of Union City, Steve Smith of the Shawtown community, Bobby Joe Smith of Troy and Spencer Hoffman (Claudia) of Marmaduke, Arkansas; one stepson, Robert Earl Hoffman of Samburg;
23 grandchildren; and several great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; her cousin, Juanita Whitehead of Samburg; and her special friend, Mama Sue Cranford of Hornbeak.
She was also preceded in death by one daughter, Crystal Jean Smith; one granddaughter, Tori Smith; two sons-in-law, Frank Cheatham and Dennis Mitchell; one sister, Jennie Lee Woods; and two brothers, David Dean and Jim Gifford Dean; and her special friend, Noma Franklin.
Our mother and best friend will be loved and missed forever.
