September 21, 1931 – April 23, 2020
Mr. James L. Yates, 88, of Union City passed away 3:45 p.m. Thursday, April 23, 2020, at AHC Union City.
Graveside services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Sunday at Antioch Cemetery near Hornbeak. Brother Chip Davis will officiate. There will be no visitation and friends are asked to meet at the cemetery for the service.
Edmaiston Mosley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
James was born September 21, 1931, in Samburg, son of the late Jim and Ollie Mae (Reed) Yates. He married Wanda (McMullen) Yates February 3, 1957. She preceded him in death February 18, 2008. James retired from the former Reelfoot Packing Company after 35 years of service and served in the United States Army during the Korean War.
He is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Teresa and George Burns of Union City; one son, Johnny Yates of Gadsden, Alabama; three grandchildren and the spouse of one, Jessica and Mark Armstrong of Martin, Tracy Wright of Memphis and Cody Yates of Gadsden, Alabama; and six great grandchildren, Bayley Fluty of Halls, Alec Britton and Maleigh Britton both of Rives and Toni Armstrong, Tolar Armstrong and Ellie Mae Armstrong all of Martin.
He was also preceded in death by one sister, Laverne Riddle; and one brother, Harold D. Yates.
