James Edward Elam, 88, of Union City died 1:45 p.m. Tuesday, September 16, 2014, at his home.

Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 p.m Friday in the chapel of Edmaiston-Mosley Funeral Home. Dr. Cecil Sewell will officiate. Burial will follow in Brock's Cemetery in Greenfield.

The family will receive friends at Edmaiston-Mosley Funeral Home from 12:00 p.m. until the hour of services Friday.

Pallbearers will be Neal Rice, Frank Johnson, Alan Tidwell, Harry McKendree, Nolan Bradford and Logan Counsell.

Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Carlton Sunday School Class from First Baptist Church.

Memorial contributions may take the form of donations to First Baptist Church, 500 East Church Street Union City, Tennessee 38261 or Hometown Walk of Hope, P.O. Box 482, Union City, Tennessee 38281.

Mr. Elam was born December 8, 1925, in Greenfield, son of the late Otto Curtis and Melva (Rachels) Elam. He married Francis Jane (Moore) Elam October 7, 1950. She died November 10, 1996. Mr. Elam was a retired auditor for the state of Tennessee, a member of First Baptist Church in Union City for 62 years and the Carlton Sunday School Class. He served in the United States Army Air Corps in World Ward II as a gunner during the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Mr. Elam was a lifetime member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Jones Walker Post 4862 where he was the oldest member.

He is survived by one daughter, Betty (Elam) Burton of Union City; one son and daughter-in-law, Mark Edward and Mary Beth Elam of Mt. Pleasant, Mississippi; two grandchildren, Hailey Nicole Burton of Memphis and Shad Edward Elam of Mt. Pleasant, Mississippi; and three great grandchildren, Conner Jarrell, Kraig Jarrell and Krista Jarrell all of Louisville, Kentucky.

He was also preceded in death by his son-in-law, Barry Keith Burton; one granddaughter, Deanna (Burton) Jarrell; one sister, Mabel Elam Barth; and one brother, Cecil Lee Elam.
