Mr. George Edwin Evans Sr., 74, a resident of East State Line Road near Union City, died 9:20 a.m. Friday, September 11, 2009, in the emergency room at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Union City.

Graveside services will be conducted 10:00 a.m. Monday at Hickman City Cemetery . Charlie Gelabert and Brother Jerry Leggett will officiate.

Mr. Evans was born January 8, 1935, in Fulton County, Kentucky, son of the late William Trigg and Jennie Jouett (Mosley) Evans. He married the former Teresa Gelabert on March 25, 1957. She survives.He was a 1955 graduate of the former Tiptonville High School, a retired sheet metal worker and a member of Sheet Metal Workers International Association Local 28 in Long Island, New York, a Baptist, and served in the United States Army. He loved boating, water skiing and fishing.

He is also survived by his daughter, Joanne Kathleen (Evans) Sperduto of Union City, two sons, George Evans Jr. of Union City and Gary Evans of Lancaster, Pennsylvania; one brother, Joe Evans of St. Louis, Missouri, three sisters, Rebecca Johnson of Memphis, Shirley Watts of Chattanooga, and Wanda Calsen of Chicago, Illinois; one stepbrother, Gene Wroten of Union City; five grandchildren, Jennifer Sperduto and Thomas Sperduto both of New York, New York, George Evans III, stationed with the United States Navy in San Diego, California, and Zachary Evans and Timothy Evans both of Lancaster, Pennsylvania.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Betty Fields.

The family will receive friends in the Chapel of Edmaiston-Mosley Funeral Home from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Sunday.

Pallbearers to serve will be Neil Johnson, Donnie Johnson, Joe Evans, Robert Howard, Ray Woody and Trey Woody.
