Mr. Fred "Chicken" Barton, Jr. of Rives passed away peacefully on June23, 2024 surrounded by family at his daughter's home in Ridgely.

Memorial  services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 29, 2024, at Edmaiston Mosley Funeral Home. Lee Moses will officiate.

Fred was born February 22, 1958, in East St. Louis, Illinois, son of the late Fred Barton, Sr., and the late Margaret (Jurney) Webster.  He married the love of his life, Susan Jane (Sanford) Barton on January 29, 1979.  She preceded him in death on August 25, 2021.  He was a retired State employee as a Highway Maintenance worker with TDOT – Obion County Division after 23 years of service and was a member of Berea Church of Christ.  "Chicken" Fred enjoyed spending time with family, he loved fishing, and he sure did love his grandchildren.

He is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Betty Jo and Jeff Murray of Ridgely and Karen Lynn and Angel Rosa of Troy; five grandchildren, Jafet Romero (Kaycie Dickens) of Martin, Luis Romero (Haylee Miles) of Rives, and Victor Romero and Katie Romero both of Ridgely and Angela Rosa of Troy, and two great grandchildren, Brinlyn Romero and Brayleigh Romero both of Martin;  three sisters, Shirley Leonard of Montanna, Margie Greer (Marty) of Springville, and Neva Graves (Harold) of Rutherford; two brothers, Billy Barton and Alvin Webster (Diane) all of Rives; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews.

He was also preceded in death by his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Fred Oakley and Ola B. (Everett) Sanford; and one sister and brother-in-law, Rachel Tipton (Paul).
