Mr. Edwin Earl "Ed" Mason, 75, of Union City died 11:40 a.m. Sunday, April 7, 2013, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Union City.
Graveside services will be conducted 1:00 p.m. Friday at Oakwood Cemetery near Clinton, Kentucky. Brother Rick Burton will officiate.
The family will receive friends at Edmaiston-Mosley Funeral Home from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Thursday.
Edmaiston-Mosley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Pallbearers will be Nelson Hale, Big K Parker, Kyle Agee, Johnny Garrett, Ron Bowlin and Russell Hilton.
Mr. Mason was born July 31, 1937, in Baytown, Texas, son of the late Wilford and Winnie Viola (Golden) Mason. He married Alice (Arrington) Mason December 21, 1957. She survives. Ed was a retired employee of IBM where he worked in management for many years. He served in the United States Marines during the Korean Conflict and the Quemoy 1958 crisis in Taiwan. He was a former member of the board of directors for the Epilepsy Association of Central Ohio. He had served as a special coach for academic decathlon teams for many years. He had served as a speech judge for the New Jersey state academic decathlon and designed and taught leadership seminars for the Ramapo Indian Hills High School District in Oakland, New Jersey. He was a instructor to manangement teams of IBM user groups, was a member of the Reelfoot Bass Club, was a Patriot Guard Rider, a member of West Tennessee Hog Chapter 4949 and was of the Baptist faith.
He is also survived by his sister, Josephine Preble of Houston, Texas; two sisters-in-law and three brothers-in-law, Faye and Larry Scott of Woodland Mills, Sam and Dorothy Arrington of Mineola, Texas and Roy Arrington of Ashdown, Arkansas; and several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Raymond Mason.
