Dorothy Oliver Blanton, 85, of Martin passed away 7:20 p.m. Monday, October 2, 2023, at her home.
Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 7, 2023, in the chapel of Edmaiston Mosley Funeral Home. Brother Ron Costello will officiate. Entombment will follow at Obion County Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be held at Edmaiston Mosley Funeral Home from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Friday and from 10:00 a.m. until the hour of services Saturday.
Pallbearers will be Austin Blanton, Jacob Blanton, Loagen Glover, Braylen Glover, Channing Blanton, Brent Richie and David Taylor.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of Harris Station Baptist Church.
Dorothy was born May 17, 1938, in Hickman, Kentucky, daughter of the late Charles and Arline (Rice) Oliver. She married Gene Blanton February 2, 1957, and they spent 40 wonderful years together before he died on June 27, 1997.
She worked for Salant & Salant in Union City, Fun & Frolic Nursery School of Martin and Vanity Fair in Union City. Dorothy retired as a cook for the AGR fraternity at UT Martin. Dorothy loved her church family at Harris Station Baptist Church where she was a member and enjoyed cooking and spending time with her family.
She is survived by two sons, Raymond Blanton of Sharon and John Blanton and wife Serena of Martin; one daughter, Aletha Richie and husband Terry of Martin; 6 grandchildren, 1 foster granddaughter, 5 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild; one sister, Barbara Turnbow of Union City; one brother, Vernon Oliver of Orange, Virginia; and several nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her special friend of many years, George Fisher of Union City and his daughter and son-in-law, Rhonda and David Taylor and their 2 daughters.
She was also preceded in death by 1 son, Kenneth Blanton; 1 daughter-in-law, Barbara Blanton; and one sister, Jeanette Christian.
