Dennis Edward Mitchell, 70, of the Shawtown community passed away 5:50 a.m. Sunday, September 19, 2021, at his home.
Funeral services will be conducted 1:00 p.m. Thursday in the chapel of Edmaiston Mosley Funeral Home. Brandon Fowler, Brother Darrell Hoffman and Brother Eric Burress will officiate. Burial will follow in Fremont Cemetery near Union City.
Pallbearers will be Shane Glisson, Amos Smith, Jeremy Smith, Brandon Fowler, Josh Cheatham, Joe Smith, Frank Cheatham, Brent Grimes, Larry Mitchell, Jr., Jackie Grimes, Scott Grimes, Andy Grimes and Max Grimes.
Honorary pallbearers will be Charles Harris, Eddie Wilson, Brent Griffin and Todd Mitchell.
Visitation will be held at Edmaiston Mosley Funeral Home from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. Thursday.
Dennis was born December 19, 1950, in Union City, son of the late Herman and Maxine (Huey) Mitchell. He married Nena (Smith) Mitchell August 24, 1974. She survives. Dennis had been employed as a tire builder at the former Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company. He attended New Hope Bible Church and enjoyed duck hunting and coon hunting. Dennis was a wonderful husband, daddy and papaw.
He is also survived by two daughters, Maryjean Dunn and husband Matt and Tina Mitchell all of Union City; one son, Daniel Mitchell and wife Nita of the Shawtown community; seven grandchildren, Hunter Smith of Samburg and Autumn Smith, Jalyn Parker, Maddox Dunn, Jett Dunn, Addy McClanahan and PiperK Curlin all of Union City; two brothers, Bill Mitchell and his wife Shirley and Larry Mitchell, Sr. all of Hornbeak; his mother-in-law, Jean Hoffman of the Shawtown community; and one aunt, Ray Nelle McMillon of Obion.
He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Anita Edmiston and Pat Poole; and four brothers, McElroy "Hoggie" Grimes, Jerry Grimes, Bobby Grimes and Cloyce Grimes.
