Dempsy Bivens 1945-2011
Mr. Dempsy Bivens, 65, of Union City died 6:40 p.m. Tuesday, March 22, 2011, in the emergency room at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Union City after an extended illness.
Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Friday in the chapel of Edmaiston-Mosley Funeral Home. Pastor Tommy Hall will officiate. Burial will follow in East View Cemetery.
Mr. Bivens was born April 10, 1945, in Dyersburg, son of Mozelle (Ellis) Bivens Veal of Dyersburg and the late Roy Bivens. He was a former fire fighter for the Dyersburg and Union City Fire Departments. He was then employed by the Union City Police Department where he served as a Lieutenant for 14 years and was acting police chief for a short time, the Obion County Sheriff Department where he was a deputy sheriff for 5 years and the Obion Police Department where he served as an officer. He was of the Assemly of God faith.
He is survived by his wife, Geraldine (Lacy) Bivens, whom he married on June 5, 1965; two daughters and sons-in-law, Cindy and Alan Black and Teresa and Mark Breeden; and five grandchildren, Jeramy Black, Samantha Black, Madison Breeden, Elizabeth Breeden and Lillian Breeden all of Union City.
He was preceded in death by his stepfather, Robert Veal Sr.
The family will receive friends at Edmaiston-Mosley Funeral Home from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Thursday.
Pallbearers will be Ricky Smothers, Tack Simmons, Melvin Dowell, Chris Cummings, Dave Green, Todd Wright, Billy Stewart, Steve Vaughn and Ken Asher.
