Obituary

Mr. Darrell Mathis Gore, 74, of Woodland Mills died Sunday morning, October 4, 2009, at his home after a long battle with cancer.

Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Tuesday in the Chapel of Edmaiston-Mosley Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Obion County Memorial Gardens.
Brother Jerry Leggett and Brother Eddie Mallonee will officiate.

Mr. Gore was born March 14, 1935, in Dyersburg, son of the late Elmo and Edith (Mathis) Gore. He married the former Carolyn McDaniel on September 14, 1961. She survives. He retired as a supervisor with the former South Central Bell Telephone Company with 32 years of service. Since then he and his son Brad have owned and operated Gore Telecommunications Services. He helped form the former Union City American Legion baseball league and was coach of that team in 1962. Mr. Gore was a former Union City councilman and served two terms as the mayor of Union City. He was the former pesident elect of the Union City Civitan Club, was the former president of Obion County Crimestoppers, had been a member of the advisory board of the Tennessee Municipal League, a member of Boy Scouts of America and a voting member of the National League of Cities. He was a member of Union City Second Baptist Church and the Lamplighters Sunday School class.
Mr. Gore was a charter member of the Obion County Rescue Squad and helped establish a set of rules and guidelines that later became by-laws which are still followed today.

He is also survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Brad and Tracy Gore of Union City; his sister, Helen Childress of Athens, Alabama; his grandson, Brett Gore of Union City; his step grandson and his wife, Brian and Tara Burress of Mt. Juliet; his step great grandson, Braden Burress of Mt. Juliet; his sister-in-law, Hazel Williams of Union City; two brothers-in-law and their wives, Dale and Flossie McDaniel of Union City and Ralph and Brenda McDaniel of Johnson City and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two brothers Elmo Gore, Jr. and Richard Mac Gore.

The family will receive friends in the Chapel of Edmaiston-Mosley Funeral Home from 12:00 p.m. until the hour of services Tuesday.

Pallbearers to serve will be Dale McDaniel, Phillip McDaniel, Mark McDaniel, Roger Williams, David Williams and Bret Williams.

Honorary pallbearers will be member of the Lamplighters Sunday School class at Second Baptist Church.
