Funeral services will be conducted 1:00 p.m. Wednesday in the chapel of Edmaiston-Mosley Funeral Home. Kermit Jones and Brother John Paul Berry will officiate. Burial will follow in East View Cemetery.
Mr. Smith was born September 26, 1931, in Booneville, Mississippi, son of the late Fredrick Paul and Ruby Gertrude (Daniels) Smith. He married the former Margie Galloway on January 17, 1950. She survives. He was a retired truck driver for Signal Delivery in Memphis and was a retired captain for Pinkerton Guard at Gooodyear Tire & Rubber Company. Mr. Smith was a former member of the Union City Kiwanis Club where he served as secretary and treasurer for many years and was a member of First Baptist Church in Union City.
He is also survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Pamela Jane (Smith) and Michael Archey of Union City; two sons and daughters-in-law, Daniel Ray and Pat Smith of Union City and Fredrick Paul and Kathy Smith of Southaven, Mississippi; six grandchildren, Kandyce Southerland of Martin, Kevin Smith of Hollywood, California, Britt Archey and Craig Archey both of Union City, and Daniel Smith and Staci Smith both of Southaven, Mississippi; two great-grandchildren, Cody Southerland and Hunter Southerland both of Martin; and his step-granddaughter, April Turrentine of Troy.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Evelyn Steidl and Carolyn Haines.
The family will receive friends at Edmaiston-Mosley Funeral Home from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Tuesday.
Pallbearers will be Kandyce Southerland, Britt Archey, Daniel Smith, Kevin Smith, Craig Archey and Staci Smith.
Honorary pallbearers will be Carol Baxter, Sherri Edminston, Angela Lonas, Dr. James Batey and Baptist Memorial Hospice Nurses.
Memorial contributions may take the form of donations to Alzheimer's Foundation of America , 322 Eigth Avenue, 7th Floor, New York, New York 10001.
