Obituary

CT Hill, longtime Martin resident, died at his home on December 29th. He was 70, and had battled brain cancer.

The son of the late Thomas Landis Hill and Lois Virginia (Beasley) Hill, CT Hill grew up on the family farm in the Nashville area and graduated from Madison High School. In 1961, he moved to Martin to attend the University of Tennessee Martin Branch (now the University of Tennessee at Martin), where he met his first wife, Brenda Carolyn Harrison. They had two children, Charles Thomas and Julie Ann. They were married for thirty three years. Brenda Hill died in 1997.

Over a long and varied career, Mr. Hill worked in the construction and insurance businesses and as a truck driver. In 1998 he married Lagena Owen. The two shared a robust life together, including several years team driving, and later worked to promote the revitalization of downtown Martin. Most recently, Mr. Hill enjoyed considerable success as a craftsman, creating well-regarded furniture pieces and other artistic works. A devoted son, husband, father, friend, and civic servant, Mr. Hill was active in the local arts community and supported numerous philanthropic endeavors.

He is survived by his wife, Lagena Owen Hill, children, Charles Hill and Julie Hill, and Julie's husband David Coffey; grandchildren, Payton and Kennedy Hill; step granddaughter, Fallon Brooke Erwin; and two great grandchildren; sisters, Myra Bryant, Beverly Hill, Peggy Pinnell, and Sheila Hill; and brother, Gaius Hill. Other survivors include Matthew and Millicent Rosenthal and Benjamin Rosenthal.

He was also preceded in death by his sister, Lois Hill Davis.

The family is grateful to numerous caregivers and friends, including Thanna Owen, Jeff Owen, Dalane and Robert Fletcher, Dr. Walter Fletcher, and Preston Marsh.

No formal services will be held, but family and friends are invited to a gathering "Celebrating CT" on Saturday January 4th from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. at the home of Julie and David Coffey in Union City.
