Clarence Edward "Sonny" Barnett, 81, of Union City passed away 1:46 a.m. Sunday, November 13, 2022, at Obion County Nursing Home.

Graveside services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at Obion County Memorial Gardens. Pastor Justin Hiens will officiate.

There will be no visitation and friends are asked to meet at the cemetery for the service.

Edmaiston Mosley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial contributions be made to Second Baptist Church Mission Fund , 831 North Everett Blvd, Union City, Tennessee 38261 or The Salvation Army.

Sonny was born August 17, 1941, in Paris, son of the late James Ellis and Opal (Townsend) Barnett. He married Jo (Stricklin) Barnett March 21, 1965. She survives. Sonny retired as a meat cutter at the former Kroger in Union City after 32 years of service. He was a member of Second Baptist Church in Union City where he had been on mission trips to Honduras with the church. Sonny enjoyed fishing, woodworking, gardening, playing checkers, playing the piano and singing.

He is also survived by two daughters and one son-in-law, Traci and Riley Baggett of Union City and Theresa Barnett of Dallas, Texas; one son and daughter-in-law, David and Amanda Barnett of Union City; two grandchildren, Andrew Speed of Nashville and Madelyn Barnett of Union City; and one sister, Sue Applegate of Bruceton.

He was also preceded in death by one granddaughter, Emma Claire Barnett; and two sisters, Juanita Bomar and Frankie Lewis.
