Catherine May Abshire, 94, of Union City passed away 7:19 a.m. Tuesday, September 24, 2019, at Clinton Place in Clinton, Kentucky.
Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Friday in the chapel of Edmaiston Mosley Funeral Home. Dr. Cecil Sewell will officiate. Burial will follow in Obion County Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be held at Edmaiston Mosley Funeral Home from 12:00 p.m. until the hour of services Friday.
Pallbearers will be David Abshire, Jr., Chris Pickering, Taylor Pickering, Cameron Lewis, Drake Cruce, Richie Collins and Carson Collins.
Honorary pallbearer will be Tom Cleveland.
Mrs. Abshire was born April 18, 1925, in Hickman, Kentucky, daughter of the late Ira and Eula (Bell) Edwards. She married Billy Holmes Abshire, Sr. February 22, 1944. He preceded her in death May 4, 2010. Catherine had been employed as a school crossing guard in Union City for twelve years, had been employed in food service at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Union City and was a homemaker. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Union City and was a pink lady at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Union City.
She is survived by one daughter, Cathy Cunningham (Danny) of Obion; two sons, David Abshire (Judy) of Union City and John Abshire (Mona) of Mayfield, Kentucky; her daughter-in-law, Pat Abshire of Woodland Mills; seven grandchildren, David Abshire, Jr. of Grand Rivers, Kentucky, Jennifer Pickering, Crystal Fuzzell and Bradi Collins all of Union City, Brad Abshire of Woodland Mills and Jeffrey Vaughn and Melissa Miller both of Paducah, Kentucky; sixteen great grandchildren; and two great great grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by one son, Billy Abshire, Jr.; four sisters, Frances Myatt, Martha Ross, Ottis Lattus and Louise Barnett; and one brother, Billy Edwards.
