Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Thursday at Sunswept Baptist Church. Brother Jeff Cox, Brother Jack Long and Brother Chip Davis will officiate.
Graveside services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Friday at Samuels Chapel Cemetery in Altoona, Alabama.
The family will receive friends at Edmaiston-Mosley Funeral Home from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Wednesday and at Sunswept Baptist Church from 10:00 a.m. until the hour of services on Thursday.
Honorary pallbearers will be pastors of the Beulah Baptist Association, James Petty, Ray Moore, Jimmy Byrd, Gerald Parnell, Harvey Henderson, Alvin Quick, Gene Pope and Billy Wallace.
Brother Eddie was born September 10, 1946, in Montgomery, Alabama, son of the late James Isaac and Mary Jewel (Culver) Powell. He married Elizabeth Abigail (Payne) Powell on May 1, 1970. She died December 14, 1992. He married Cathy (Smith) Powell on October 19, 1996. She survives. Brother Eddie received a certificate of biblical studies from Mid Continent College in Mayfield, Kentucky. He was the current pastor of Willingham Memorial Baptist Church in the Madie community in Lake County. He had previously served as pastor of Fairview Baptist Church near Obion, Ruthville Baptist Church in Weakley County and had served as interim pastor at Hornbeak Baptist Church. Brother Eddie was active with the Beulah Baptist Association. He was a retired employee of the former Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company and a member of the SOAR retirees of Goodyear. He was a Vietnam Army veteran and a member of the American Legion.
He is also survived by his daughter, Kylie Lyon of Troy; five sons and daughters-in-law, Anthony and Susan Powell of Springville, Alabama, Andrew and Mandy Powell of Union City, Aaron and Jennifer Powell of Odenville, Alabama, David and Melissa Aton of Bells and Chris and Vickie Aton of Geneva, Alabama; two sisters, Janet Denney of Hanceville, Alabama and Anita Pruitt of Jacksonville, Alabama; his brother, Alan Powell of Taladega, Alabama; and ten grandchildren, Mason Powell of Springville, Alabama, Mika Powell and Drew Powell both of Union City, Damian Aton and Audrie Lyon both of Troy, Kyle Aton and Jorah Aton both of Bells, Phillip Aton of Geneva, Alabama and Abigail Powell and Ethan Powell both of Odenville, Alabama.
