Obituary

Brother Robert Joe Johnson, 85, of Hornbeak went home to be with the Lord 4:23 p.m. Sunday, November 10, 2024, at his home.

Funeral services will be conducted 1:00 p.m. Thursday at Hornbeak Baptist Church. Brother Donnie Davidson and Brother Eric Burress will officiate. Burial will follow in Mt. Moriah Cemetery near Obion.

Visitation will be held at Hornbeak Baptist Church from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Wednesday and from 12:00 p.m. until the hour of services Thursday.

Pallbearers will be Greg Whitmore, Ron Costello, Eugene Hudgins, Dr. Rob Jordan, Jimmy Chamberlain, Garland Williams and Terry Crittendon.

Honorary pallbearers will be Jerry Fluty and Johnny Eaves.

Edmaiston Mosley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Robert was born August 25, 1939, in Dyer County, son of the late Robert E. and Louise (Lambert) Johnson. He married Marcelle (McNulty) Johnson April 14, 1958. Robert retired from the former Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company and was an adjunct professor at Dyersburg State Community College in Union City where he taught maintenance. Brother Robert surrendered to the Lord's call to the ministry in 1976 and had served in the ministry for 48 years. He served as pastor of Hornbeak Baptist Church since 2019 and had served as senior pastor for the past year.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Marcelle Johnson of Hornbeak; his six children, Robert Wayne Johnson and wife Marilyn of Huntingdon, Tammy Ann Cooley and husband Mike of Lawton, Oklahoma, Timothy Joe Johnson and wife Susan of Troy, Jeffery Todd Johnson and wife Lisa of Hornbeak, Micheal Craig Johnson and wife Donna of Bay Minette, Alabama and Mitchell Keith Johnson and wife Melissa of South Fulton; 22 grandchildren, Matthew, Jonathan, Allison, Brittany, Zack, Brent, Blake, Ashley, Adriane, Josh, Morgan, Hayden, Cortney, Jeffery, Taylor, Emma, Matt, Mitch, Kayla, Clay, Colton and Seth; and 28 great grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by one grandson, Robbie Dewayne Johnson; two sisters, Norma Braddock and Margie Slegar; and one brother, David E. Johnson.
